WARSAW – A down payment of $ 75,000 has been approved for the county’s purchase of the Wyoming County Agricultural and Business Center of Excellence.
The Wyoming County Supervisory Board approved the deposit at its August 10 meeting. The board of directors announced last January that it intended to buy the building in order to save the county money.
The Center of Excellence in Agriculture and Business is located at 36 Center Street. It opened in February 2016 after an in-depth modernization and conversion of an old factory.
The building was designed to provide a “one-stop-shop” for 12 county departments and related agencies.
Those who use the location include planning and development; Wyoming County Industrial Development Agency; the expansion of the Cornell Co-operative in Wyoming County; the Wyoming County Chamber of Commerce and Tourism; and the Business Education Council.
The centralized location is more convenient for agencies and the public. It also reduced maintenance costs, as Wyoming County no longer needed to maintain several different buildings scattered around the surrounding area.
The county leased the 32,000 square foot building from businessman James Rutowski with the intention of buying it in five or 10 years. But board members said in January that buying the facility now would save the county about $ 56,000 to $ 100,000 a year, based on conservative estimates.
The total purchase cost in January was estimated to be a high of $ 3.98 million, but probably less.
m Supervisors accepted a grant of at least $ 1.1 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to help cover the costs of its response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The expenses go back to March 13, 2020.
m Board Chair Rebecca Ryan has been authorized to sign a contract with Attica Central School on behalf of the Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office will provide law enforcement and policing services when the school is in session.
The cost should not exceed $ 51.31 per hour from September 1 to December 31. It would then increase to an amount no more than $ 53.88 from January 1 to June 30.
