The Social Democratic Party (SDP) gubernatorial candidate in the 2023 general election in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Abe has identified lack of investment in young people as the scourge of failure in the society.
Speaking in Port Harcourt at the official declaration of a pro-youth group of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the PDP Mobilisers, to join the “SMA 2023 project”, Abe said, “any society that does not does not provide, welcome and strengthen its youth is doomed to failure”.
He said: “I identified early on that any society that does not provide, welcome, promote and empower young people is a doomed society.
“I welcome you all to the Social Democratic Party (SDP). We face a very big challenge; we are going through very difficult times. However, when the campaign begins, we will have a lot to say to the people of Rivers.
“For now, my responsibility, my task is to welcome you on board; to assure you that throughout our life in public service, we have been committed to the future of Rivers State and our country, Nigeria.
Earlier in his speech, group leader Justin Briggs said the state’s youth are ready to vote for Abe in 2023.
Briggs said: “Today, me and my people have decided to follow what is right. We have been in Rivers State for seven years and all we see is brick and mortar work. We have unemployed graduates, we have suffering pensioners and crying parents.
“We took our time and moved from one local administration to another and we mobilized our young people. Our young people are ready with their PVCs. It won’t be the old order; we will bring a man who loves young people.
“We looked around; we searched, we scrutinized and in all we found only one man, and that is the man we came to support, the distinguished Senator Magnus Ngei Abe.
“We are a youth group of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, the PDP mobilizers and now to move forward we have decided to throw out the party and declare our support for the candidate to the governorship of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the state.
“We also want it on record that we have changed our name from PDP Mobilizers to Rivers Mandate with effect from today.
“Our resolution here is to muster 23,000 votes for Abe and the SDP in the 2023 general election in the state.”
