Cranbury, NJ, June 24, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Infragistics, the software company responsible for user experience and interface (UX / UI) solutions behind the world’s largest enterprise applications, today announced the launch of its $ 50 million innovation fund and Laboratory. The fund will give in-house inventors the freedom to experiment with innovations beyond the company’s core UI / UX products, without the need to generate immediate revenue. The Innovation Lab arm of the fund was introduced by Infragistics Founder and CEO Dean Guida and will be led by Tobias Komischke, PhD, usability engineering expert and head of data analytics. , artificial intelligence and machine learning at Infragistics.
The new fund is part of Infragistics’ broader commitment to foster a culture of innovation and cultivate the same entrepreneurial spirit responsible for its longevity in the tech arena. After years of informal financing of innovation products, the fund introduces a formal line between Infragistics’ income-generating products and its pre-commercial growth products.
All Infragistics employees are encouraged to submit ideas that leverage their collective expertise in artificial intelligence, analysis and digital product design. Projects can use any programming framework and require the most advanced technologies available, including data science and machine learning (DSML), AI-based design, and collaborative workflows.
Under Komischke’s leadership, the Innovation Lab team has developed a proprietary and structured innovation process to prototype, test and thoroughly evaluate new ideas for market viability. Projects that pass internal and external reviews will receive experimental capital to take innovation from concept and prototype to market.
The decision to formalize the Fund and introduce a dedicated laboratory comes as Infragistics enters its fourth decade of activity. Founder Dean Guida started Infragistics 31 years ago and has since turned it into a multi-million dollar company without accepting outside funding. The company now has 250 employees and offices in the United States, Japan, Uruguay, Bulgaria, United Kingdom and India. Its client list is 100% of the S&P 500, including Intuit, Exxon, and Morgan Stanley, and its enterprise-ready UX and UI toolkits are used by more than two million developers worldwide.
The Innovation Lab is located at the company’s 74,000 square foot New Jersey headquarters. The lab is part of Infragistics’ $ 22 million investment in converting a vacant two-story warehouse into an open work environment.
“We have thrived through major economic recessions, technology bubbles and explosions by taking a hands-on entrepreneurial approach to develop Infragistics,” said Guida. “Our model is made possible through the training of in-house inventors and entrepreneurs who keep our spirit of innovation alive. I know first-hand that the success of an entrepreneur depends on his ability to dream, invent and contribute in a very concrete way. Infragistics’ new innovation fund and new lab mark our commitment to let our team do just that.
The management team of the Innovation Laboratory is currently responsible for two new products on the market, Indigo.Design and Reveal, and a pre-marketing product, Slingshot, which will be released in the fourth quarter of 2021.
Indigo.Design is a comprehensive design-to-code system that has taken Infragistics out of the business and work directly with UX designers across all industries and sizes of business. Thanks to Indigo, Infragistics was one of the first companies to enter the emerging low-code space in 2018. The platform generates production-ready code for Angular, with React, Web Components and Blazor coming soon. . George Abraham, Director of User Experience at Infragistics, leads the Indigo.Design team at the Innovation Lab.
Reveal is a data visualization and analysis software platform that can take the world’s most complex data sets and turn them into actionable insights. Organizations that thrive on precision and continuous intelligence, like the Japanese Railway Group and Baker Hughes, now rely on Reveal to organize, understand and act on their business intelligence. Seventeen-year Infragistics veteran and SVP of Development Tools, Jason Beres, leads the Reveal team at the Innovation Lab.
Soon to launch Slingshot is a digital workplace that improves results for teams wherever they are, empowering them to make better decisions faster through data analytics, as well as improving their workflow. Slingshot eliminates the disruption caused by constant application change and introduces a structured approach to project organization, task prioritization and context communication. Slingshot is the culmination of field best practices gathered by Infragistics over three decades of working with hundreds of companies. Guida and the director of the innovation lab, Dr Tobias Komischke, are currently leading the pilot tests for Slingshots.
Dr Komischke, Director of the New Innovation Lab, worked for seven years at Infragistics before accepting the role of Global User Experience Director at Honeywell in 2015. In 2020, he returned to Infragistics to lead the new innovation laboratory.
“By giving our team the space and freedom they need to create, and generating early returns from our established industrial relationships, we are confident that we will bring the right tools to market,” said Dr Komischke . “We know that innovation labs fail when they fail to strike the perfect balance between freedom and structure, which makes my mandate twofold: to create freedom by eliminating our team’s urgency to generate revenue, while at the same time introducing structure through a well-defined fail-fast-and-learn-quickly approach. The sooner we learn, the sooner we can start investing vigorously in projects that show promise.
As part of his work with the Innovation Lab, Dr Komischke has also developed an Innovation Fellowship with Rutgers University, which brings a steady stream of information that helps the company shape its ongoing innovation.
