If you are looking for the perfect place to start your day, Canopy Road Cafe is the place for you.
No worries, however, you’re not sitting under huge holm oaks, hickory trees, and soft, moss-covered gums as the pines cast their protective shadow over your head. But indeed, the dining room outside offers a certain atmosphere.
As soon as you enter the restaurant, you are immediately greeted with a smile.
Specializing in traditional breakfast and lunch dishes, Canopy Road Cafe is immensely popular for its Southern charm with a fun and innovative twist that sets it apart from most breakfast establishments.
Owners Brad Buckenheimer and David Raney opened the first Canopy Road Cafe in Tallahassee in 2007, shortly after graduating from Florida State University. It is now a chain with five branches: three in Tallahassee, one in Jacksonville, and one in Tampa.
Typically when I visit I dine at the North Monroe Street location as it is closer to my home. The other locations are on Apalachee Parkway and Capital Circle.
Both owners with strong roots in the hospitality industry and corporate catering, they opened their first restaurant at the age of 25 and have never looked back.
Their goal was to create a place where people could order greasy spoonful food with a southern twist.
The establishment offers excellent and affordable food with friendly and attentive service that welcomes you like family.
As with most restaurants, you will usually have to wait for your coffee to fill up or signal your waiter for another cup. But here, the waiters are attentive; your coffee cup never reaches the bottom until it has received a refill.
The best part is the food. My God, the amount of food given is really a lot. So much so that you are able to stuff yourself and take plates of leftovers. This place is truly a gem for amazing sandwiches and breakfast. They have such a creative approach to their breakfast menu.
They make their eggs in a million different ways. The food here will leave you so incredibly satisfied that you would never think of going anywhere else in Tallahassee.
Not only is their food incredibly delicious, it is also very affordable. A short stack of buttermilk pancakes costs $ 8 and a full stack costs $ 9. For their signature pancakes, a half pancake order is $ 9 and the full order is $ 11. They also offer hot pan dishes ranging from $ 10 to $ 11.
My meals here are always superb. The cookies and cream pancakes are to die for. Truly a life changing and my favorite meal. The pancakes are served with Oreo cookie crumbles, white chocolate chips, cream cheese frosting and chocolate sauce.
The best sellers here are the Cinnamon Buns, Banana Nut Pancakes, and Cap’n Crunch French Toast.
Not only is the establishment highly regarded by members of the community, it is also voted “Best Breakfast in Tallahassee” by FSView and Florida Flambeau, “Best Breakfast and Brunch” by Tallahassee Magazine and rated “Best. place for breakfast ‘by TripAdvisor.
Their goal of creating an atmosphere like no other has been a success.
